It all started when a team of talented engineers left Fibronics to start their own company in Yokneam.
One of the first startups in Yokneam was a cabling solutions and fiber-optics company named Adacom started by a team of highly talented engineers who left Fibronics in 1985. Their success attracted other small communication technology companies that eventually grew or were purchased by larger companies who remained in Yokneam.
Four years later, when layoffs at the main factory in town created an unemployment crisis, the newly elected mayor, Simon Alfassi, managed to convince the government to provide tax benefits and investment grants to small technology oriented companies willing to relocate to Yokneam. By actively marketing these benefits, the mayor was able to attract enough companies to turn Yokneam into a major center for all forms of communication technology.
Yokneam's communication technology companies range from startups in the Explore Dream Discover incubator to large companies like Mellanox in the network infrastructure sector and Marvell in the semiconductor sector.
